πŸ“Œ The Agenda: What to do with a slower summer (career optional)

Welcome back to the Peer Suite Agenda, your weekly briefing on what matters for your career, network, and next move.

Inside This Edition:

  • Events: Sign up for the Peer Suite Networking Morning; Boardroom Breakthrough Webinar with City CV; The Wealth Panel Exploring The Gender Pension Gap, and our Walk & Talk.
  • On our radar: Frida at the Tate, wild swimming, weekend escapes by train, a money podcast, and a quick book on negotiating
  • Resources: Free short courses with a certificate from the Open University
  • From the blog: Keeping your network warm without the effort, and why to think about your next role before you need it

HYDE PARK | 18TH JULY

Women's Walk and Talk in Hyde Park

Take a break from the usual networking events and join us for a refreshing walk and talk with the Peer Suite community. This is a walk, a networking opportunity, a community, and a conversation all rolled into one. Great if you’re looking for a relaxed way to meet other ambitious women in London.

WEWORK | 22ND JULY

The Wealth Panel: The Gender Pension Gap

A panel discussion exploring the gender pension gap, what the key causes are contributing to the gap over time, and what women can do to close it. Followed by networking, so you can connect with other women building their long-term financial future.

VIRTUAL | 30TH JULY

Boardroom Breakthrough Masterclass with City CV

A one-hour virtual masterclass with Victoria McLean, CEO of City CV, on landing your first or next Non-Executive Director role. Learn how boards read a CV, how to position your experience for the boardroom even if you’ve never held a board seat, and how to build a NED narrative that gets you shortlisted.

THE ROOF GARDENS | 15TH SEPTEMBER

Women's Curated Networking Morning

A networking morning bringing professional women together over coffee for warm, unhurried conversation and the kind of connections that are hard to make at a busy event. We personally match you with three other guests so you know you will leave with aligned connections.

🎨 IN THE FRAME Frida: The Making of an Icon has just opened at Tate Modern and has already sold more advance tickets than any show in the gallery's history. It traces how Kahlo went from painter to global icon, with over thirty of her works shown alongside her clothes, jewellery and photographs. The exhibit runs until January.

🌊 DIVE IN If you have been meaning to try wild swimming, this summer heatwave offers a great time to start. Cold water has a stabilising effect on mood and sleep, plus joining a group offers an informal way to grow your network. The Outdoor Swimming Society maps safe spots across the country for you to try.

πŸš‚ OUT OF TOWN You don't have to get on a flight to get out of London. Especially with this gorgeous summer weather in the UK, you can take advantage of spots that are just a few hours outside the city by train. The Lonely Planet's guide to weekend breaks from London by train is a good shortlist to start working through.

🎧 PRESS PLAY Money Clinic with Claer Barrett is a great podcast by the FT and a nice listen on the way to work. Barrett takes a real listener's money question each week, from investing in an ISA to pensions and property, and works through it with an expert in about twenty-five minutes.

πŸ“š ON THE SHELF Next-Level Negotiating by Amy Gallo is a short, practical read for anyone with a pay or scope conversation ahead of them in the autumn. It is built around preparing for the conversation so you can go in confidently and get what you want.

OpenLearn Free Learning Platform

A lighter calendar and workload in July and August offer a good time to build a skill without spending anything. OpenLearn is the Open University's free learning platform, with hundreds of short courses across leadership, finance, data and communication, most taking only a few hours and many ending in a digital badge or certificate you can add to your LinkedIn profile.

YOUR NETWORK

How to Keep Your Network Warm Without It Becoming a Second Job

The summer is the easiest time to let your network go cold. This is how to lightly stay in touch with the people who matter over this period.

CAREERS

Why You Should Be Thinking About Your Next Role Before You Need It

The best time to plan your next move is before you need to. Learn why the strongest career decisions get made when you are not coming from a position of urgency.

That's it for this week. When this email goes out, I'll be chatting with many of you at our women's networking morning at the Roof Gardens. If you missed this one, make sure to bookmark our events page and sign up for other July events.

Warmly,

Rebecca
