๐Ÿ“Œ The Agenda: Two September events, and what neuroscience says about ageing well at work

Welcome back to the Peer Suite Agenda, your weekly briefing on what matters for your career, network, and next move.

This week we are hosting a brilliant session with Jules Anderson all about energy, performance and the art of ageing well. There is still time to sign up before the virtual event on Friday.

And next week we are returning to The Roof Gardens for our women's networking morning. We are at capacity, but have opened up a few extra spots if you are still thinking about joining! Details and links for these events below.

There's plenty more in this edition, from what's on our radar this week to several helpful free resources to support your career.

VIRTUAL | 11TH SEPTEMBER

Energy, Performance & the Art of Ageing Well with Jules Anderson

A one-hour virtual masterclass on energy, performance and the art of ageing well. Jules unpacks what epigenetics and neuroscience tell us about cognitive function and vitality as we age, coupled with a practical performance framework to take through your career.

THE ROOF GARDENS | 15TH SEPTEMBER

Women's Curated Networking Morning

Start your morning with genuine connections at one of London's most exclusive private venues. This curated networking morning brings together professional women in finance, law, tech and beyond at The Roof Gardens, with personally matched introductions prepared for every guest.

โš–๏ธ A TOUGHER STANDARD FOR EMPLOYERS From 30th October, employers will be legally required to take "all reasonable steps" to prevent sexual harassment at work, up from the current "reasonable steps" standard. Theโ€‹ change also makes employers liable for harassment by third parties, such as clients or customers, unless they can show they did everything they reasonably could to prevent it.

๐ŸŽญ BOOK THIS FOR NOVEMBERSylvia, the Olivier-nominated musical about suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst starring Beverley Knight, plays the Royal Albert Hall from 13th to 15th November, with general tickets going on sale on 7th November. It's a striking choice of venue, as the Suffragettes were banned from performing there over a century ago.

๐Ÿ’ฐ WHAT THE BANK OF ENGLAND DOES NEXT The Bank of England announces its next interest rate decision on Thursday 17th September, with rates currently held at 3.75% after a split vote back in July. Whichever way it goes, it's a decision that can move your mortgage repayments and your savings rate at the same time without much warning, so keep half an eye on the news that day.

๐Ÿ“– A BRILLIANT CAREER READ Executive coach Ellen Connelly Taaffe's book The Mirrored Door argues that women don't stall before their next big step because of imposter syndrome, but because of five specific perils, including isolation and disconnection from their own ambition, that show up once you're already successful.

๐Ÿค THE CASE FOR FEWER, BETTER CONNECTIONS Ahead of the networking morning, this is a good one to read first. Dr Rob Yeung's piece for ACCA rounds up research showing that a smaller, well-chosen network consistently outperforms a large one, from Purdue findings on external contacts and job offers to studies on why likeability tends to beat competence when people choose who to collaborate with. A helpful reminder before joining a room full of new introductions that the goal is a handful of relationships that can be nurtured rather than a pocket full of business cards.
