๐Ÿ“Œ The Agenda: Is the 4X6 career method right for you?

Everyone's talking about:

The 4x6 career method

How long should you really stay in a job before moving on? Six months feels too short. Ten years? Maybe too long. What about exactly two years, but with a plan?

โ€‹

The 4x6 method suggests spending two years at a company and breaking your time into six distinct phases. These phases help you maximise impact and learning while delivering your best work and positioning yourself for what's next.

โ€‹

  • Sprint 1 (Months 1-6): Learn - Absorb the culture, map the power players, understand what really gets rewarded
  • Sprint 2 (Months 7-12): Master - Become exceptional at your role, document every win, build your track record
  • Sprint 3 (Months 13-18): Innovate - Lead high-visibility projects, solve problems, leave your mark
  • Sprint 4 (Months 19-24): Search - Job hunt from a position of strength, negotiate with confidence

โ€‹

The result? You're never stagnating. Instead, you're always building and positioning yourself for consistent salary bumps and more senior roles.

โ€‹

But this doesn't mean you have to leave every two years. The same framework can position you for promotions and pay rises within your current organisation. Think of it less as a job-hopping blueprint and more as an intentional career plan that replaces "wait and hope" with strategic action.

โ€‹

This approach works particularly well in fast-paced industries like tech, but may be less suitable for sectors where deep institutional knowledge and long-term client relationships are more valued.

โ€‹

The key is using the framework to stay proactive about your growth, whether that's internally or externally.

๐Ÿ’ฐ FINANCES Got promoted, but your paycheck stayed the same? Congrats, you've just experienced a "dry promotion." The number of employers offering new job titles without matching pay rises has jumped 5% since 2018, reaching 13% in 2024, and women tend to feel greater pressure to accept these promotions.

โ€‹

๐ŸŽง LISTEN Esther Perel's "How's Work?" podcast tackles something most of us feel but rarely discuss: professional jealousy between colleagues who were once equals. In the episode "My Promotion Ended Our Friendship," two community organisers who were best friends confront how competition, jealousy and shame crept in after one climbed the ladder.

โ€‹

๐Ÿง  WELLNESS While lounging in bed all weekend may sound appealing, it can actually leave you feeling more drained. The better alternative for real rest? "Microbreaks", just 10 minutes engaging in an activity that oxygenates and recharges your mind and body.โ€‹

โ€‹

๐Ÿ’ผ CAREERS Salary transparency is shifting in the UK. While gender pay gap reporting has been mandatory since 2017, new proposals could require salary ranges in job ads and ban salary history questions. Here's what might be coming.

โ€‹

โฐ PRODUCTIVITY Ever wish you had a work buddy even when you're solo? Enter "body doubling" - working on a task in the presence of another person, either physically or virtually, to boost focus and productivity. The term recorded 8,800 Google searches in 12 months as remote workers try to combat distraction.

Workday must-haves, but make them female-founded. Smart, stylish essentials we love for powering through your to-do list.

How I Increased My Salary by 75% in 2.5 Years (Here's What Worked) Between 2021 and 2024, I increased my salary by 75%. Not through job hopping, but by positioning myself for these increases within the same company. I'm sharing this because too many women accept whatever pay rise they're offered and assume hard work alone will get them fairly compensated. It won't. After a decade in banking, never negotiating, I realised I was significantly underpaid. When I joined an e-commerce brand as COO,...

Your Network Doesn't Have to Go Quiet In The Final Months Of The Year It's already happening. People are protecting their calendars and pushing meetings into January so they can focus on wrapping up end-of-year projects and hit their targets. But with two months left in 2025, you don't want to go quiet on your network and start from scratch in January when everyone's inbox is flooded with "Happy New Year, let's catch up!" messages. The challenge? Staying visible without being pushy. This time...

Tired of Being Too Available At Work? Try These Boundary Setting Techniques We're heading into the final stretch of the year, and that means urgent deadlines, last-minute projects, and the pressure to tie up every loose end before Christmas. Saying no to new work feels impossible, especially with year-end reviews around the corner. But iIf you're already feeling stretched thin, now is exactly the right time to set some boundaries. Maybe it's the late-night emails you feel obligated to answer....
